Schiek Sports Elastic Knee Wraps for Weightlifting – Weightlifting Knee Wraps by Schiek Sports are supplemental support gear used for heavy leg training in the squat, hack squat and leg press. They consist of a heavy duty cotton elastic, with or without a velcro closure, that helps reinforce the patellar and quadricep tendons providing a barrier of protection against injury during heavier lifts. It’s not uncommon to feel stronger and be able to lift more weight than you normally would while wearing knee wraps. In fact, some lifters report jumps of 50-100 lbs. in their squat. For those experiencing knee or tendon discomfort, knee wraps can help alleviate knee pain during training sessions by reducing the pulling of the lower quad and its tendon at the attachment point to the patella.
Using your knee wraps properly is essential to experience the maximum benefit. First and foremost, only use your wraps when needed. Most lifters will perform numerous warm ups first without the use of their wraps. Once they begin to increase the weight of the lift, the wraps are applied using minimum tension while increasing the tension as each set gets heavier and more support is needed. To apply your wraps properly, start below the knee wrapping counterclockwise to help avoid improper patellar tracking overlapping about half the width as you go. When finished, the end of the wrap should be positioned at the lower quad. Tuck the end of the wrap beneath the previous layer pulling out a few inches to prevent it from unravelling during the added pressure and flexing of the lift.
